Lactation Induction Consultation

Lactation Room offers consultations for individuals who wish to induce lactation. Our Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Sarah Early, who is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), along with our team of IBCLCs, support individuals who wish to breastfeed but have not experienced pregnancy or childbirth. This consultation typically involves a thorough assessment of the individual’s medical history, hormone levels, and breast tissue development, followed by the creation of a personalized lactation induction plan. The plan may include hormone therapy, breast stimulation techniques, and guidance on breast/chestfeeding and pumping practices to stimulate milk production and establish a milk supply. Throughout the process, the FNP-IBCLC provides ongoing support, monitoring progress, and making adjustments as needed to optimize lactation success.

Scheduling a consultation for the induction of lactation offers significant benefits to clients.

  1. Firstly, it provides individuals with the opportunity to achieve their breastfeeding goals, whether they are adoptive parents, intended parents in surrogacy arrangements, or transgender individuals.

2. By receiving tailored guidance and support from a healthcare professional with expertise in lactation, clients can navigate the complex process of lactation induction safely and effectively, maximizing their chances of establishing a milk supply and breastfeeding successfully.

3. Additionally, these consultations empower clients with evidence-based information and practical strategies to overcome challenges and build confidence in their ability to breastfeed.

This integrated approach ensures that clients receive holistic care that considers their overall health and wellbeing alongside their lactation goals. Additionally, FNPs are equipped to provide ongoing medical management, including monitoring hormone therapy and addressing any potential side effects or complications that may arise during the induction process.
